Default Odd Battery Wiring Question

This is not a crawler related question so please forgive in advance. Since I am waiting on parts to continue tinkering with my scaler and my mini I cracked open a cheapo plane the kids got. It has a nimh battery in it that I think has up to 180 mah and it charges by a port on the plane. The battery is dead. The battery is hard wired into the circuit board, though and has odd wiring. It has a red/black and yellow wire connecting to the board. I know what the red and black do but what do you all think the yellow does? I am thinking if I purchase a new battery I might just make it to where I can charge the battery a different way. Thanks in advance.

Rick, there are 2 possibilities that come to mind right off. The first is that the yellow wire is a ground. The reason this makes some sense is because you mentioned that the battery is soldered to the board and is charged via a port on the plane. Since the battery cannot be removed from the board in order to do the charging, it would make sense that the sensitive electronics would need to be protected from a possible static charge from your charging port. If you want to take some detailed photos and send them to me, I can make a better call, but this makes the most sense without knowing more details. If you do decide to send photos, send me detailed photos of where all the wires are hooked up and of the battery itself.
