Default receiver pack?

I know everybody uses the cc bec on here, and I might order one later. but I have a 6v receiver pack now and was going to plug it in and see if it made a difference in my steering on my bully. I am running a brxl now and havent had any problems but read where others still used a cc bec. If i plug in the receiver battery, do I stilll unplug the red wire on the brxl just like when using the cc? thanks
