| Max Voltage for a JR Z9100T Servo?
I've got a JR Z9100T servo that I use in my scaler. I've been running it at 6v (370 in-oz) with no issues. The power is pretty good, but I'm interested in getting a bit more. I know some folks run more than 6v through their servos and I'm wondering if anyone has experience doing that with this JR servo? If possible, I would be interested in running ~7v through it, but I don't know if that will smoke the servo or if it'll be fine. Is there a preferred method to determine an acceptable voltage other than hooking it up and hoping not to let the smoke out? I was thinking of starting at just 6.4v and running the truck to see if the servo gets warm to the touch. And if it doesn't, I could step up the voltage a bit more. Is this a reasonable plan or is there a better way? I realize there are high voltage servos out there, but I already have this servo and would like to just increase its output a little bit. If it's not safe to go beyond 6v then I'll either leave it as-is or may consider buying a high voltage servo. Thanks for any input y'all can share. |

You run the risk of burn out if you run it higher than 6 volts. Personally, I would not risk it when there are high voltage servo's on the market that have the same qualities, and some can be had for very little money, shop around. JC |

I called JR and asked them personally a bout a year ago. w/o it being an actual high voltage servo, anything above 6v will/can fry it. keep it @ 6v, or buy an 8711 |

I ran mine at about 6.5v for quite a while, it did get noticeably hotter when driving hard and the motor started weakening after about 3 months or so. I sent it in for warranty repair and JR said that they could tell I was running more than 6v through it because of how the motor was. They recommended I get a current limiter to combat the problem. I now run mine at 6.2 and have touch more torque out of it than at 6v, and no noticeable heating issues. 6v is safe, anything at or above 6.5v is pushing it. |

I just got one and have not installed it yet. Is it a decent servo at 6.0? Gotta be much better than stock right? Last edited by BELADOG; 02-12-2012 at 01:46 AM. |
