Ok so new to crawling and i see a lot of guys using small packs? I have been racing and with that you get the biggest pack that will fit for run time. I am building a hustler clod axle setup with a novak m2 dig and 55 turn motors. I assume i want a 3 cell any sugestions would be appreciated. I do a lot of ordering from hobby king on my packs i have had maxx amps to these and they seem to last just as long for a quarter the price.

Higher turn motors draw less current.....the need for larger capacity packs just isnt there. Hell, I can get damn near 20 minutes in my comp rig (dual 35T brushed) from an 850mAh pack...and more than an hour and a half in my scaler with a 2700mAh pack (45T brushed). I get bored of driving the scaler before the pack dies.

Awesome when i was running my 1/8th scale buggy i had a 5 cell 4,000mah pack running a 2200kv motor it is really pushing it to get 20 min. So with my setup is there a pack you would recommend?

Well, on my super (I assume this is what you are also building), I run a Krawl Off-Road (Krawler Hobbies) 850mAh 4S () lipo and I get about 20 minute runtimes. I run 35T motors and this truck weighs about 10 lbs. http://www.krawloff-road.com/store/i...&path=35_36_45 If your electronics cant handle the 4S voltage, then he makes 3S packs that are of similar capacity. |

I've had very good fortune with Thunder Power 1300mAh packs. 2s and 3s about 1/2 hr runtime. They're small enough to mount about anywhere, to help with weight placement. Your right, racing off road requires much different batteries, but on crawlers, the high turn brushed motors are very efficient.

So this speed controller is capable of 3 cell should i go with a 3 cell or 2 cell i think i am mounting the battery to the front axle opposite of the servo.

The M2 will work on three cells but it's internal BEC's voltage will drop and it will run hotter. Novak recommends using an external BEC and the fan when using 3S packs. I didn't use the fan due to space limitations and it didn't run hot at all. I did use a BEC but to power the servo directly and let the M2 BEC power the RX. |

If a 3S fits your physical size and weight specs and if your ESC and motor can handle the voltage, then go for it!

With big servo's, an external BEC is really the way to go as well, seems to cure a lot of "issues" people have compared to running the servo power from the RX and the internal BEC. | |

Anyone have any suggestions on a ex bec? I am running two large servos and it will have about 8 leds and maybe down the road front and rear winch. While we are on the subject I have a 4x4 slash with a mamba maxx eac and a jr 9100 and had to add a cap to help it and i still get glitches now and again. Would it be wise to do a ex bec on it too?

Most of us use a CC BEC (Castle Creations BEC). This is adjustable so you can set it's output voltage to something the Servo will like. There are multiple threads on how to hook this up, here, within RCC. |
