Default purpose of a BEC???

Hey everyone im new to the rc crawler thing. and was wondering what is the purpose of a bec if im not running a 1s esc? What does the external bec actually do?Whats accomplished when using a bec?

Nest time i would recommend searching on the forums first.

A bec is what is called a battery eliminator circuit it provides a stepped down regulated voltage from your battery to your receiver/servo/other electronics. Many times the internal bec on an esc will not handle the amp load that a high torque servo will pull resulting in problems.

like everyone said, use the Search;

any how.. a BEC is a external device that pulls voltage directly from the battery, to power the RX and Servo. this way, the ESC doesnt have to draw out the power from the internal BEC, which could ultimately lead to glitching or brown outs
