Default mg996r waterproofing

Hi guys

Im using one of those cheap tower pro mg996r servos in my 1.9 scale crawler after I burnt my ace ds1015 out.

How waterproof are these servos, or how do I go about waterproofing.

There is a video on youtube of one being submerged in water but he doesn't say how its done.

Looks like He has put a O ring over the servo horn thing and used gasket goo over the wirer's where they enter the case?

Anyone using these in water?

Default Re: mg996r waterproofing

hi, This is how I waterproofed my servo for my SCX10:

1. Unscrew the screws on the bottom of the servo and remove the top of the servo to expose the gears.

2. Take a little bit of waterproof grease that you find at your local hardware store and rub the grease all over the bottom of the "shaft" of the servo (the piece that sticks through top plate of the servo) just enough to to seal the gap between the shaft and the hole in the top plate of the servo, DO NOT put a lot of grease because you could cause binding and your servo will not work properly

3. Put the servo back together.

4. Get Plasti-dip at your local hardware store or here: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pld-11603-6/overview/

5. make a loop in your servo wire so you can hang it

6. Dunk your whole entire servo in the plasti-dip can

7. let it dry for 30mins and then do another coat

8. let it dry for 4 hours (if you see air bubbles dab your finger around them until they are all gone)

9. put your servo horn on and mount to your truck and go drive in some water as long as the rest of your truck is waterproof!!!!

NOTE: this WILL void the warranty, so do this at your own risk. Also, this WILL work on ANY servo. This DOES work, I have COMPELETELY SUBMERGED my Axial SCX10 under water, to the point where NO part of the truck is above water!!!

Thanks,
-Brendan
