Default used lipos??

So I have been looking for some new batteries, been out of the hobby for a few years and now all my nimh's are about dead. Just got a charger/balance for lipos. I have seen a few used lipo packs on ebay, but not sure if its a good idea or not to buy used lipos. and what are the down falls to lipos vs nimh?

I wouldn't buy used lipos. They're cheap enough new.

The downfalls of lipo: they aren't as forgiving if mishandled. If you over or undercharge them, they'll be permanently damaged. If you REALLY abuse or mishandle them they'll catch on fire.

They aren't that hard to deal with though. Handle them like a responsible adult and they'll live a long happy life.

Never buy used batteries, period. You never know how they've been treated. And why are they for sale? Gotta be a reason.

For good lipo's check out:

www.cheapbatterypacks.com
www.hobbypartz.com
www.valuehobby.com
www.hobbyking.com

And yes I wouldn't buy any used batteries unless it was someone that I knew and trusted. You don't know how they have been treated or even how many times they have been charged.

That does look a bit cheap, but they aren't bad for what you pay for them. Hobbyking is based overseas, and it can take a few weeks to get your order from them unless you buy something from one of their US warehouses.

Valuehobby.com is another good one, and based here in the US.

Also, why such a big pack? Is this going in a scaler or a comp crawler?

Hobbyking sells them cheap due to the fact that most of them come from China and other overseas countries as Duuuuude mentioned. Try to get it from the US warehouse if you don't want to wait---but you will pay a few dollars more.

That is a huge pack, even for a scaler and about 5 times the size of a normal comp pack.

There pretty good packs. I run there 2S 5000mAh packs in my SC trucks, ERBE and E-Max and there 3S 1300 packs in my crawlers/scalers.

Out of about 30 packs I've bought from them I've only gotten one bad pack. A soder joint came loose between the cells. Soderd it back and replaced the shrink wrap and all is good.

That is a great pack....I run those in my Slash 4x4 with Mamba Monster....thier shipping is kinda slow (about 3-4 weeks to Norcal) but worth the wait. Friends and I have ordered prolly 30 different batteries from them and only had one bad from the git go (had mis-balanced cells and didn't recover). We are also running their 1300mah and 1000mah 2s and 3s packs in our crawlers.

All good vendors. I sold my Turnigy 5000mah 2s packs after running friends' 3s and 4s....I had the need for more speed and had only had the 2s for about a month...lol.

WTF? They are 5000mah 3s...they are not 1000mah crawler comp batteries....and not any heavier or larger than any other brand lipo of similiar specs....read the dimensions BEFORE you order and get the right packs! Also the leadwires are large and that adds weight. Lightweight batteries claiming to be same mah and C rating might be skimping on materials and bumping up thier C rating specs...I'd be suspicious...

Your charger also charges LiFe's, I'd go for those, much safer. Don't forget balance plugs and taps, you'll need to get a port to match the balance plugs on whatever battery you buy. IE, Hyperion, Align, Thunder Power taps.
