| esc getting hot
I'm running a axial ae-2 esc, hh 7t puller motor with a 18 tooth pinion running through a rc4wd r2 tranny. I just got the motor installed the other day an took it for a run in the yard just to see how it ran. I ran it for maybe 5 min an not hard at all. After I was done I noticed the esc was really warm but the motor was still cool. I'm running a 5000mah 2s 30c lipo. What would cause it to get that warm that fast.

was your esc getting enough air flow? if thats not the problem the motor is drawing more than the esc would like, you could step down to a hh 10t puller

That esc is only rated down to 19 turns.

really if a sidewinder (good to also 19t) can handle the puller the axial esc should as well. i would make sure the esc is getting enough air flow to cool it.

I wouldn't honestly run that motor on anything less than a Mamba Max or BRXL.
