Default RAM 35 Voltage Issue

Hey Hey
I'm not sure how many of you use a ram 35 unit for switchable 4ws but I seem to be having a voltage issue with mine. It runs fine from the 4.8volts or so it gets from my evx, but when I put my receiver pack on it she just locks up. (will not let me deactivate the ram unit) There rated for more then 6 volts so I don't know what the hecks going on with it.
Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone else use this stuff?
I'm thinking about taping it into the evx for its power but so far its not a big mess of wires, and if i have to tap into that, there goes the clean look / movablity of the system.

reciever packs charge up to more than 6 volts. It could be causing problems.

I was thinking that, but I checked the ram unit and from what I got its rated for up to 9 volts. The amp rating on it seems low (can't remember how much off hand) so I'm thinking that might be it. Still leaves me in the same spot though.:?

use the bec from the evx for the ram unit, and keep the reciever pack seperate to power the servos. Just make a harness or cut the wires on the servos so that only the signal wire (white or orange or yellow) is coming from the reciever. Then the black and red wires go to the rx pack.

I think thats something like I'm going to try later today. Just use the power coming from the evx for the ram unit (being its not attacted to anything right now anyway) and leave the receiver pack power the servos / receiver / fail safe. Just have to rig up some funky connections to make it decent looking.

I have yet to find a good looking way to do that. I like to use micro deans plugs in the harness for servo power. Simply take two servo extensions and solder the power leads into a deans plug. Your servo pack can just plug directly into that. Make sure the juice isnt getting back to the rx though.

Many of my rigs have multiple power sources. I like to keep the reciever powered by the bec. If a reciever pack gets low you run the chance of a runaway rig. If the main pack gets low (and is powering the reciever) the rig will always stop moving before the reciever shuts off.

I just did it up the way I said. smooth as butter.

I usualy keep my receiver pack toped up but thats a good point. Truck cant run away if the rx dies at the same time as the esc... lol have to go move some wires haha

That didn't take long... cut some zip ties and take off one of the connectors. works good. EVX is powering the rx and the ram unit, the receiver pack is powering the reversing Y harness, fail safe, and the servos.

Thanks for the help.

Jus have to make up something to put all these wires and stuff in now.

zip ties, zip ties, zip ties.

If you think the setup will stay for a while shrinkwrap all the wires together if possible.

It's just till I'm finished with the new chassis I'm making. Once thats all done I'm going to make up some sort of small box to put this stuff in to keep the water off it. (and keep it clean looking)
