| Upgrading from a Goat 2s to 3s Questions
So I am upgrading to 3s and was curious if I need to get the newer Ballistic motor or will my existing Novak Crawler 18.5 work well with the 3s? If I need to get the newer motor would you go 18.5 or 21.5??

Your motor will be fine, I went with Tekin after my Ballistic 18.5 finally let go and Blow-Vak gave me horrrible customer service. I went with a Tekin 21.5 and 4s. If you want to stick with 3s get the Tekin 17.5 you will be happy.

So what is the difference between the crawler 18.5 and the ballistic 18.5?

I think the ballistic(I had) has a larger diameter rotor. If you are going to stick to Novak keep the motor you have untill the time comes for a new one. I doubt you will notice a difference in the performance. The biggest difference that you will notice anyway will be from the increased voltage that you are about to run

The difference betwwen the motors other than the rotor (which drops speed in half, the silver motor on 2s is faster than the black on 3s) is the Ballisitic is rebuildable and the sensor harness can be changed (silver motors are junk if the wire gets damaged and it happens easy). Really buying the 3s ESC is a waste, it has nothing other than the 3s cutoff different. Just plug a 3s pack in and have fun, watch the runtime or get a seperate cutoff. My 2s Goat has been on 3s with brushed and brushless for a long time, has a 13.5 hooked up at 3s in my SCX right now. If you buy an ESC get a MMP, it's cheaper, works tons better and does much more. |
