| What do you guys think of this servo?
I'm shopping for a servo for my NCR, I just installed some HB rovers and the stock servo just isn't cutting it. It even struggled with the stock tires. I ran it for about 40 min today and it was pretty hot by the end, I didn't have my temp gun, but I would guess it was in the 130F-150F range. So my first choice was initially the hitec 7955TG 250 oz/in @ 4.8V. Which is fine because I don't comp my truck, just mess around with friends. I do like the fact that it uses titanium gears and it's made by hitec so you cant go wrong there. I would install a BEC eventually and as most of you know that would bump the torque up to 333 @ 6V. I have a ad number for tower and I can get this one for $94 shipped. But here is the servo in question......Airtronics Monster High Torque servo, it's metal gear instead of titanium, but the stats are impressive. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXWDH9 It produces 361oz/in @4.8 which is amazing and 423 @ 6V which is overkill in my case lol The advantage is that I probably wouldn't need a BEC so that would save me $30, and should keep my runtimes where they are now since I would only be supplying 4.8v to the servo. With my discount I can get this servo for $106 shipped The reason I'm asking about it, is that I can't find any reviews or opinions on it. I don't know if it has just flown under the radar because it's not "HITEC" or if it's not a good product. In my experience Airtronics has been great, I run all my trucks with an M8. I have no experience with their servos tho. Thoughts? |

I really dont know much about the servo, but it may just be a bang for buck type of deal. You can get the more powerfull Hitec for the same price or less.

I've been running the Airtronics 94780 on my AX10 for 2 years. Comping and bashing, I've put a lot of packs though the truck and it's still going strong. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT SERVO! |

check out this servo. identical specs to the 7955(333oz) and cheaper too. most say its a rebadged hitec. everything is the same. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXNRN6&P=ML |

I say pay a little more and get the 7950 or 7980. It's worth the money to me to have the extra power when you need it. But with that being said the 7955 is a pretty good servo.

i run the 7955 that i bought used from here in my losi and its been great to me for nearly 2 years now, sure i could use a stronger one (who couldnt) but for what i do i never though about spending the $ for a 7950 or similar since from what ive read there have been more 7950 failures than 7955 not sure if the voltage has anything to do with it or not. with just about any high torque servo you need an external bec unless the esc has a darn good one built in (very few have) your ncr stock esc likely wont like any good high torque servo.

well I'm upgrading my motor and ESC soon so that shouldn't be a problem. The reason I'm favoring the airtronics is because I want to keep my setup relatively simple, i.e. not having to run a BEC if I can help it. Plus the fact that it puts out over 100 in/oz more at 4.8V than the 7955 for essentially the same price. I wasn't going to spend more than $100. Bumping up to the 7950 or the 7980 wouldn't do me any good because I never plan to run my servo at 7.4v, nor do I need 500+ in/oz as I am a recreational crawler only. Thanks for the input guys! |

So I cannot speak on longevity, but when my rig flopped on its side the servo could lift the truck when I moved the tires easily. No BEC as I have a HH BrXL | |

Keep in mind the 7980 is a little larger than a "standard" servo (7955 & 7950), thus may need work to get it to fit.
