Default Futaba 4PL steering wheel

Not sure if this is the best place, but I guess it is technically an electronic piece. I was just sick and tired of the tiny wheel on the 4PL. There are only two draw backs to this radio. Besides the wheel, the dial is in the middle of nowhere. That might be mod #2 if I can figure it out. Think Airtronics MT4.

Ok, so I pulled the wheel off and chopped the unneeded bits off the center hub. Next up I got a 26mm wheel and tire. A little epoxy and I have a descent sized wheel to grip. More if a man's size wheel instead of one for a kid.

26mm? Crawlers use 1.9's! Here is wheel, custom machined hub with that a VP wheel bolts to.

I've been running this for over a year now. I like the feel of it.

it looks cool, but honestly i think having a larger wheel on the 4pl would be a big negative.. you need to hit the switches (dt1 and dt2) on the fly, and with a larger wheel, that would be much more difficult.

4pk, i get because you can have the dig switches on the grip, but the 4pl lacks the functionality to have both digs on the grip button.

what about the 2 DT buttons above the grip button on the 4pl? i thought you could program those to do what you want?

You can. I'm not sure what the previous poster is talking about.

To me it makes it easier to hit the switches on the fly. I had to reach up from the tiny wheel before. Now I can hang my fingertip down and hit the switch. All about personal preference, but it works much better for me.

I guess I just couldn't man up to the 1.9. Besides a $25 wheel and tire was much cheaper.

Nice work on these guys

I put on a Kimborough scalloped grip which is a bit bigger than the foam and I like the bumps (mine is from 20 years ago but I'm assuming they are still the same size):

But what I'd really like is a steering that looks like,... well, a steering wheel instead of a drive wheel

I have one of these installed on my DX3R and really like it.
