Default Tekin Fx-R Retarded?

I recently bought a tekin fxr and i swear, it seems like it is retarded. First as i read the directions on how to calibrate it I cant even get the "chimes" to sound when i use the switch to turn it on. But when i plug the battery in with the switch already on it works fine. Now of course after i do all this the truck only works for a few seconds of crawling until it becomes super glitchy.

And i am using this on a spectrum radio DXr3. Im just todally out of ideas.

What do you guys think?

Need to know more.

1. What battery are you running?

2. What and how many servos you running?

3. Do you have a BEC in line?

4. Pictures of how you have it wired helps.

5. Did you buy used or new?

6. Is your dx3r new or used and this includes the RX

All these need to be answered to help eliminate wrong answers.

I think before you call some one or some thing "retarted" you should learn how to spell retarded.

Might be several things, my best guess is how your radio is set up.
I think I see the cap, so make sure that's wired right.
Im suprised you didn't just get another specky rx and just bind it to the 3r?
but I would re ramp your esc and start programing again. Might be a setting in the hotwire they screwed up. Get one. They are worth it.
the only sure way to do things is to do it yourself.

Thank you very much I was planning on getting the Hotwire since i have two Fx-rs in my berg. And there reason i didnt buy another spectrum RX is because since my 6 yr old brother likes to drive this when i dive my bronco or the berg my dad and i thought it wouldnt be a bad idea to just buy another radio. Its really pretty nice and gets the job done. There only around $60 so i thought it was a good deal

Not that its causing the problem, but the solder joints don't look so good. The solder should flow down into the slit on the posts....in the pics I see none...

Almost looks like a cold joint....

The tekin stuff sometimes can be picky about its signal when calibrating stuff. Unplug everything but the ESC and try....

Ya i had a guy complain at a hobby store back east in buffalo about the solder joints on my berg. Its hard since our soldering iron doesn't get hot enough. Need a new one.

Typically cold solder joints look "grainy" not shiney. In your case, you may not have enough solder flowing to fill everything in.

Be careful of how all your wires run in the rig. Try (as much as possible) to keep power wires (battery & ESC) away from comm wires (RX antenna, RX to servo/ESC wires).
If power & comm wires must cross, try to do so at close to 90* as you can.

Also, what batteries are you running (NiCD/Nimh, LiPO) and how many cells?
What steering servo?
Is your BEC direct to through steering servo, or through the RX? If direct, some radios want the power (red) from the BEC to the servo and the black connected to the RX black for the servo.

Not sure it could cause a problem but in the second to last of the first pics you posted it looks like you have a small wire fray crossing between the 2 positive posts. Also are you trying to use the switch for programing some how? From your first post it sounds a little like you are trying to program it like a castle?
