Default I don't understand... still

I tried searching, but got a bunch of stuff I still don't understand. I'm certainly not a newb to Crawlers, but to MOA's I am!

I am looking at getting an XR-10 sometime later this year.

I have a DX3, with a 3 position 3rd. channel

Will I be able to operate the MOA setup with this radio? What dig functions will I have. I know I'll need to buy a dig controller or something right? Cheap is the name of my game, will I NEED dual ESC's?

Can someone list out what functions I'll have with certain equipment?

I setup a servo dig in an AX-10, but this MOA jazz is like a foreign language!

Thanks in advance for any help, I just don't want to get into something I know nothing about...

I'm certainly not a expert but if u use 1 esc with a electronic dig u should have front and rear dig functions or if u use the Novak m2 dig it will work the same. Do u have a dx3e? If so if u put the 3rd ch. Into exponential then u will be able to adjust how much power u have with each motor Like u would if u had duel esc's and were able to mix them.

You will need to run a punk dig. It will allow you to switch from front dig, 4wd, and rear dig. You only need one esc in this setup. If you had wannasummit hack on your tx you could run dual esc's.

Punk dig: front dig, rear dig, 4wd (if you use a bxrl or Mamba micro pro the brakes on those are very good) punk dig is similar to a servo dig but it is switched electronically.

Novak M2: front dig, rear dig, 4wd...has proportional (front/rear mixing) but drag brake is not the best on it

I'm not sure about wannasummit (never messed with it)

So.
With my radio, if I were to add a Punk Dig unit, I could have Front and Rear Dig?

So I'd have 4wd, front lock (rear dig), and rear lock (front dig)?

Would I have any freewheeling options?

That is correct, if you still have the servo dig setup you can use it but punk dig is way more compact and cleaner. I don't believe you can freewheel with this setup.

I have an XR and am running a single Tekin FX/R esc with a punk dig and a DX3R tx. This setup gives front dig, 4wd, and rear dig.

No. The gear reduction in the trans cases on the axles and the braking effect on the disengaged motor keeps the wheels locked. Hope this helps.

Spelled it out in black and white, that's PERFECT! I get it now

Last question: Would one of the new Axial ESC's suffice alone in an MOA rig? I think it's the "cheapest" one I've found with a drag brake...

I don't have any experience with that esc, so I couldn't give you a confident answer. If your on a budget, I would suggest checking the fs section for an esc and a punk. I've seen tons of them in there very reasonably priced. It seems alot of people are ditching this setup and going with a dual esc setup.

yes you could use an axial ae-2 esc but you are safely limited to 2s lipo but you can safely run 2 40t's
