3s LiPos - Get a Hyperion 35C G3 VX from rcdude.com
servo - I like Hitec servos, so I recommend them. Get something with at least 200oz of torque
ESC - Either a Tekin FXR or a Holmes Hobbies ESC
2.4 ghz Receiver and transmitter - I recommend the Futaba 3pm-x. But if you want something dirt cheap, but a used axial 2.4 unit from the for sale section of this forum.
LiPo charger - Thunder AC6 from hobbypartz.com

and a BEC? - Yes, get a Castle BEC

Don't bother with a fx-r unless you have very little room. Go with the holmes br-xl ecs which can handle 6s lipo and has a great internal bec so you won't need an external and you can get it waterproofed. Non waterproofed one is the same price as a fx-r and the waterproof one is only $10 at $108 or so

Unless he wants to ditch that cheap integy motor, then he can get an FX-R and a Tekin Crawler motor for $99.

I would recommend against that LiPo battery because it is only 25C. Shoot for 35C or higher if you can. Also, running a castle BEC for the servo is a good idea even if the esc has a good bec in it. It's better to not rob the steering servo by giving it it's own line of power rather than having it battle with the motor and esc for enough power.

The HH ESC have an internal BEC of 6 volts 5 amps so if you have only a servo for steering, I think it's more thqn enough

A lot really depends on the servo. While I will agree the HH BRXL has a great internal BEC, there are servos used in crawling that will overpower even that BEC.
