Deans (or knock offs), XT-60, or bullet connectors get my vote. You could do traxxas but they arent the greatest either. Make sure you like what you pick, then you wont have to change all your stuff over when you figure out that you like something else better.

I may just be able to handle the soldering now.

What kinda plugs would be a good idea? I know deans are the popular ones or at least when i was into the hobby a good bit. I've always had the cheap tamiya.
Glad to help out!

As to plugs lots use Deans, I use Anderson PowerPoles (the only good ones around when I ran electric loooooong ago.)
Keep in mind, if your local group uses a specific connector, if you do the same you can swap batteries.

here's what i just switched to in my wraith. so far i'm loving it.

mmp 1cell
cc bec
novak 18.5t crawler ballistic motor.
18t pinion
87t spur.
4400mah 3s sky lipos

it's about as fast as a stock wraith. quite a bit faster than the 35t integy lathe motor it replaced. run times so far are very good. i ran an hour and a half yesterday and used about half of one pack!

with this combo, the torque and low speed is amazing. in the first ten minutes i shelled the tranny gears!! replaced them with robinson racing metal gears.
