Default Stall???

so i just did my first comp ever, had a blast. But i had real bad motor stall when bound up. Im running the Novak M2 Dig ESC and Terra Claw 55t motors on 3s. im assuming its my motors causing the stall as they are cheap cans. Am i correct on this? thanks... Basically, do i need new motors or new ESC's? (i can only afford to do one or the other right now)

Then yeah, I would assume your problem would be weak magnets in those motors.

I'm assuming this is on a MOA (since you stated "motors")?

Running 55T's has a lot of torque, but rather slow. I'm running dual 35T brushed in a 2.2 Bully on 3S.

If you're running a worm drive rig (like an LCC), save & go brushless. They tend to eat brushed motors real quick, even good ones.

A pair of machinewound 35T or 40T brushed motors is not a lot of money but will add a bit of speed. Going to handwound is even better (handwound tend to be a bit faster than the same turn machinewound).

I think the typical motor choice on an XR is 45t rather than the 35's due to the gearing of the axle.

I run 35Ts in my XR and they seem to do just fine.

Whomever you get motors from, tell them the rig you have, the motors you currently have and what you like/dislike about them (too fast, too slow, not enough torque, etc) and battery you are using (eg: 3S 40C LiPO) so they can make suggestions.
Also look in the forum for your brand rig and see what is "usual".

While a 35T may be fine in my 2.2 Bully, it may be a bit fast or slow in an XR-10.

It seems to be 50/50, between 35t and 45t from what I've seen and read. All I know is cheap 55t is too slow and too weak. I'm definitely getting 35t motors.

Sent from my uber smart, smart phone....
