buy a TQ3 from traxxas with receiver off ebay and mod it yourself.....there is a ton of info on how to do it here on this site....If you spend more than 40.00 you paid too much

the tq3 is not linear, so your front sterring will be proportional to how much you turn the wheel, and your back wheels will only go full left, center, and full right. you could always go with this:

It all depends on how you switch it. i put in a potieometer on - off -on and it is 100% proportional......and it will stay in the position I leave it in. from a slight turn to 100% lock. the pot cost me 1.25 off the net

just my 2 cents on radios.

i was going to go with a modded tq3, and instead i got an airtronics M8. i am so glad i went with the airtronics set-up. full adjustability, and combined with a spektrum, i don't have to worry about freqs.

again, it's just my opinion. it doesn't make sense to me to build a high dollar crawler and use a cheap radio.

I have a modified Traxxas TQ3 and it works great considering the low cost. I recently switched to a Hitec CRX. This is also an inexpensive radio (the SRX is even less), but I know have proportional rear steer, subtrim and end point adjustments. I have rear steer (3rd channel) mixed with the front steer (channel 1). If I don't want rear steer, I hit a couple buttons and switch to a model setup that is front steer only. The endpoint adjustments will help keep my digital servos from burning out. You can add pots for endpoint adjustments to a TQ3, but to me it doesn't seem worth the effort.
