Default what LiPo w/ largest mAh & # of cells for XL-5 esc?

I have a traxxas waterproof XL-5 esc and would like to know what LiPo battery with the largest mAh rating and most number of cells can it handle safely. Also, the LiPo battery must fit in an Axial Honcho stock battery tray without modifications. If possible, please provide a link online to where I can purchase this LiPo battery for the XL-5. Thanks in advance.

First, let me ask you this.

Do you know if you have the new XL-5 with lipo cut-off?

If not, you will need an external lipo cut-off to run the old XL-5 without it.

You have the ESC, thus YOU can figure out the greatest "S" value (cell count).

As to mah, why don't you measure the tray, then go look yourself to see what fits?????

I would start with CheapBatteryPacks.com to see what they have.

Keep in mind, a huge mah means you get the electronics really warm, why not stick to a 3000mah pack??

It all depends on how you drive it. Could be 30 minutes, could be 3 hours. Your driving style, terrain, tire size and gearing all come in to play. Buy one and test it out.

I buy all of my batteries thru HobbyKing R/C Hobby Store : and get the Turnigy lipos, never had a problem and cheapest I can find.

The biggest NiMh/NiCad batt you can run with that is a seven cell (8.4 volt).
I threw an eight cell on there, and it wouldn't even turn on, so I suspect they have some kind of 'over-volt' protection.
(Either that or my ESC is blown, mebbe I best go check that out,)

The biggest LiPo it'll tolerate is a 2S (7.4 volt)

For mAh, you're unrestricted. Biggest one I have is 13,500mAh.
Heavy, though. Doubt it'd fit your battery compartment.
