| WiFi R/C controller
I got my daughter a A.R. Drone for Christmas. I love the ability for control over wifi. While in the mall the other night I saw 3 different wifi controlled R/Cs in Brookstone, and another in Target. They seemed to be pretty cheap. This got me thinking that maybe a universal receiver is made for R/Cs. I know I would love to have one for the crawler I'm building. Is anyone here using one? What have you found? How much do they seem to run? |

I have a Parrot Drone WIFI controlled. I have both my iPhone4 and my 2nd Gen. iPad set to fly it. Unfortunately it seems more responsive, much more accurate, even longer distances with the iPhone. I say unfortunately because the iPad has an obviously larger screen which makes the camera/video function easier to use, but makes the actual control of flight less enjoyable. I can see where this technology could be very fun, however, with RC's I think they have a ways longer to work on things. I would love to try the control of an actual 4-wheeled vehicle for a better opinion of things. The Parrot has excellent steering control, but the actual forward/reverse/speed part of things seems like it could use a bit more tuning. I am fairly new to it all with limited hours testing of all the different downloads available. I have noticed oddly that the free download operating apps seem to operate considerably BETTER then the highest priced one I purchased. Great technology in it's infintile stages for sure! |

Rc4wd makes a unit to run your RC's through an iphone but it uses a 2.4ghz module and receiver rather than wifi. LiNk: iPhly for Apple iPhone & iPod Touch |

As many times as I've been on that site, and I've never seen that before.

What would the benefit of using WiFi be? I can't see what you'd gain from being able to control a crawler with WiFi, especially when you take it outside!

It really just uses your phone as the controller. Let's you use the touch interface and the phones gyro to control the vehicle. Still sends a radio signal to do it. There's a video of it in action on the company's site. Me, I'll stick to my regular radio. Seems like a novelty for now. |
