Anyone use CorrosionX on fxr ? What did you do for the solder posts and led?

LOL! I was just looking into this myself, Eric. It looks like Corrosion X isn't flammable (in non-aerosol form) so it's possible it may just burn off from the heat of the solder iron. My concern is if it will provide a good solder joint afterward....and I'm sure that was your concern, as well.

I thought to suspend the ESC in CX while keeping the tops of the posts out of the CX, but it may wick up there anyway so not sure if it's worthwhile to try to suspend it like that. I may also try applying some motor cleaner to a Q-tip to clean the posts after it's been dunked. Not sure what cleans away CX and may have to do some experimenting to figure it out....

What did you end up doing?

makes sense to me to solder it up before applying a w/p method.

I agree, but just not feasible in my case.

Why is it not feasible? Couldn't you solder the battery and motors wires to the esc first, waterproof, then install?

Well, I'm going to have a capacitor and a very short connector lead also soldered to the posts, in addition to the battery/motor leads. And I don't want them covered in CX, either.

So I'm curious if anyone knows of a chemical that can remove CX before I start my own testing.

Check out CX's website Corrosion Technolgies
Sometimes in their product descriptions they describe how to remove it.

Already tried it, but unfortunately I found nothing. Found very little looking online elsewhere, as well.

It's not going to hurt anything, you could just tape up the stuff you don't want covered when you dip it. You could hold it by the wires when you dip it so they don't get covered too.

If I was going to remove it from the posts I'd use flux.

I know it won't hurt anything. But it will leave a nasty residue I want to avoid for items I will be touching frequently. Tape would not work as CX is way too penetrating and would work it's way in there anyway.

I would consider coating the posts with something (perhaps flux) if it can be easily removed after submersion. Liquid tape or PLasti-Dip may work if it could be peeled off afterward.

I have an e-mail query to CorrosionX to see if they have suggestions on what will remove it.

I've only used CrossionX on 2 esc and 2 rx so I'm no expert but what I taped up didn't get get any on it.

Way to go digging up a year old thread.

I had the aerosol, so I opened the case and sprayed it down and put the case back together. no problems yet, I didn't spray the post.

If you dunk it I say just wipe the post's off and you should be good to go.

No one can say I don't search!

Just heard from CorrosionX and they told me MEK will remove it. Score!

There is no way to win really, post a topic and people will yell at you to search, respond to a topic and people will yell at you for digging up an old thread....

This is what i say

I solder everything up then dip everything in corrosionX. I have also resoldered stuff after it was already dipped and it did just fine. Once I resoldered it I also dipped it again in corrosionX so that the new solder was waterproofed.

I always avoid doing the posts with corrosion x. If you do happen to get some on there use some brake clearer on a a tip and run it down and it will come right off

Speaking of CorrosionX, which one is the best to get? Ive seen Marine, Aviation, Heavy Duty, Lubrication, etc. Aerosol, spray, normal bottle with a tip, etc.

I like the pump spray best because I can pour it into a small jar to submerge items, then pour it back into the bottle. I also have some of the aerosol HD and it's nice and thick, but I'm not sure if it's available in pump spray form.

I did the same thing with the aerosol version.

I just picked up a pint sized. Ball canning jar, sprayed the CX into the jar, and then dip baby dip!
