| stupid question.....
so the balance plug on my 2s battery has 1 red wire and 2 black wires.... the balance port on my charger has 1 neg term which is black and 6 pos term which is red....so this confused the hell out of me....i assumed red was pos and black was neg.... please correct me if im wrong here....on the battery balance cable(a gens ace) it has 1 red and 2 black...is the red the neg wire and the black the pos wires....on the charger it clearly shows black being the neg and only having 1 terminal and the red being pos and having up to six....are my batteries just backwards of my charger or am i missing something.... |

Not a dumb question at all. I had the exact same one when I went to LiPo's. There are two ways to handle that. 1. Look at the pinout on the side of the charger and make sure you plug in the balance plug properly every time (not recommended) 2. Recommended: Get the balance plug board. That has the large plug which plugs into the charger and then several plugs each for different batteries. There will be a 2S, 3S, 4S, 5S and probably 6S plugs. They are all separate and keyed so you can plug them in only one way. Usually, the way it works is the negative is all the way to one side, then there are individual leads for the first cell, second sell, third cell and so on. When the charger charges it will use those leads from the cell to balance it individually. Technically you can plug direct into the charger if you get the direction correct, but I really don't like doing that. The nice thing about the board is when you wear out the plugs you can just buy a new board. |

The balance plugs should be keyed so you can only plug them in one way. You said the battery is from HobbyPartz, is the charger too? |

A picture speaks 1000 words. Post up a couple of the different plugs and ports so we can see what is going on. Since your packs are 2s1p there are 3 wires in the connector, they each go somewhere:
Now I dont know what the actual order is but effectively that is the way it works. Since the cells are in series they share one of the wires as the + of one and the - of the other. |
