Default Receiver range problem

I bought a Futaba bottom of the line AM receiver a few months ago and just now got it in the vehicle to discover it has a range of about 20 yards before it starts losing communication. I've tested all the other equipment (I have quite a few radio sets/esc/etc) and have narrowed it down.

I've checked the antenna wire and popped the top off the receiver and all looks well.

Anything else I should try before sending it in for warranty?

60 feet isn't too bad for a cheap AM radio...
Especially in crawling... I never get that far away anyway!

What kind of warranty did you get that is valid a few months after you bought it?

What do these little pots inside on the circuit board do? Could it be "out of tune"?

Let's say little Jaurez drank too much Corona the night before he put it together...

i get about 600 yards .It cost me about £250 for my transmitter and heavy duty servos

Mine is a 10 Model Memory Transmitter, megatech 3PM-FS with a T3PM DIGITAL PROPORTIONAL R/C SYSTEM

This is the one of best controller rock crawler controller futaba brought out i think?

not bad for a 12 year old

A few things to check:

What transmitter are you using, and is it the same band as your receiver? If you're using a TQ3, and your cheapo Futaba is on the 75MHz band, you'll get extremely limited range.

Check the shift of the transmitter and receiver. AM sets have shift issues just like FM. Futaba and Hitec are negative shift, JR and Airtronics are positive. (I don't know what shift the 27MHz band is, but all AM 27 band equipment is compatible, regardless of brand. This goes for crystals as well.)

If I had to guess, I'd say you're trying to use it with a TQ3 and it's on the wrong band. So 60 feet is pretty good.

I bought this setup complete as a Futaba combo (tx, rx, x'tals, servo and sc).

Would this shift thing be an issue if all my electronics were matching?

you will want to check the placement of your antenna AM is extremely sensitive to interferance and any metal to metal contact of having the ant. wire to close to motor wire/servo wires/battery connection could all kill your reception. do a double check of all your harware making sure it's good and tight lol that sounds bad
