| capacitors?
Hi, new to the forum. New to crawling. Not new to RC's and soldering. I have owned brushed motors in the past, and i mean in the PAST! but never had a brushed motor without capacitors. Back in the day, the brushed motors i got already had them on. I must of gotten used ones. I cant remember that far back My question is, are they needed? If so, what size and which tabs to put them on? I got my hands on a lnc and found a good deal on a 65t motor, so i bought it and it has no capacitors on it and i'm having a hard time finding info for this subject. Thank You for any replies! |

I'm no expert, but from what I've read is that with 2.4 radio equipment the capacitors aren't really needed anymore. May have to do with modern motor/esc technology also, I don't really know. In a pinch I ran my old (late 90's) AM radio gear on my Honcho with no capacitors on the motor and it only had minor glitches. Nothing like when a capacitor would come unsoldered from the can back in the day on my touring car though.

The tech at my LHS told me that you do not need capacitors on crawler motors because they are not turning as many RPM's.

Motor caps were really needed with AM & FM radios, not so much with the 2.4ghz. I would still use them though. Look closely at your motor, today, most of the caps are tiny chips not the bigger ones we used way back when (I started running RC cars in the late 70's.......). The new caps may be sitting on a small PC board on the endbell between the brush hoods. |

They won't hurt, but they really aren't needed with the stock Losi radio. A 65t motor isn't the best choice for a LNC though, 35-45t would be much better.

Thanks for the replies, greatly appreciated! but why not a 65t? dont the higher turns provide more torque for crawlers? Im learning |

The LNC's are geared low, very low. Sometimes you need wheelspeed, even a cheap integy 35t will have more torque than the stock throw away 55t.
