| DId I kill my receiver?
So I put in a screw the other day and it pinched the positive and negative wires for my winch between the tube work and transmission. It actually caused a dead short because it pierced the + and - and when I tried to spool the winch in, it didn't do anything. Well I pulled the culprit screw out and cut and re soldered the wires together, now the winch won't spool in. It spools out fine. I'm thinking that I must have fried something in the receiver for channel 3 in. I checked it with a test meter and I get negative 12 volts when I spool out but no voltage when I spool in....time to buy a new receiver? Thanks, Tim.

Everything works fine except for channel 3 in. *edit: are you asking if I checked winch operation with channel 1 or 2? I would have to rip the truck apart to check that. Last edited by War Pig; 04-30-2012 at 08:15 AM. |

Are you checking voltage between the winch controller and motor? Typically when a RX goes all channels are taken out so like someone else suggested try the winch in another slot, I bet its the winch board not the RX. |

Ah crap, I didn't think of that. I'm running one of the TZI winch controllers. I have two other new ones, I'll have to put one in tonight. Duh, something so simple.....

No worries man, probably cheaper than a new RX.

The winch controller has a high power side and a low power side, and both are isolated from each other. You may have just fried a relay, or the small fet under the board (depending on what version you have) The relay is easy to replace, but fet can be bypassed even easier. |
