| RC4WD Modified 55t, Novak Terra Claw 35t Problems...HELP! so i just got my 55t motor from rc4wd (installed), and my novak 35t terra claw (not installed still in box) and i installed it on my honcho based wraith hybrid with all metal cage work, this bitch is heavy, so im using a 18t pinion for some wheel speed, wrong! i took her out crawling twice and it feels like it has no balls at all! i go up to a rock, and it crawls fine but when it gets under some pressure like into a bind where the wheels should spin it wont the tires just seize up and nothing moves, full throttle and nothing, im using a venom 2s lipo 30c 5000mah with the losi msc12l night crawler esc which ive used in multiple rigs and its a great esc for a 2s application and price, but i dont want to burn it up, what am i doing wrong? and also my drag brake doesnt seem to brake hard enough to stop the rig i programmed it into crawler mode but apparently my rig might be to heavy for the drag brake to hold it? idk im a shortcourse guy and thats all i know as far as gearing combos, ive been crawling for under a yr and im still getting to know things so please dont burn me just looking for some honest seasoned help asap. thanks guys, aaron g, Last edited by Big Tex; 06-18-2012 at 09:34 AM. |

First how heavy is heavy. Second thats a large pinion. I'd try the 35t with a 12/87 combo, you will never be happy with wheel speed with a 55t motor on 2s that's my 2cents.

Is it one of RC4WD's sealed cans? I had one of these that was just gutless as well as slow. It ended up straight in the bin. If you can get them in the states, Ansmann Roxx motors are okay if you are on a budget, comes in 50, 55 and 80t, and fairly pokey, plus they are rebuildable if you know someone who's a wizz with brushless motors. |

I've got a mixture of motors in my trucks, from a tuned up 55t Novak, a HH motor I got in a trade, 35t I think, plus I get good results with Tamiya Sport tuned black cans and really low gearing (on 2s Lipo only) I've used the Roxx 50t motors in my Tamiya Dagger trucks that my kids use, just quick enough to keep them interested but slow enough that crashes aren't that big a deal. |

I think a 12 tooth pinion would be a better choice with the 35t. What the tooth count on your spur?

The wraith is actually pretty heavy. Mine doesn't have any metal other than the aluminum upgrades and a bit of weight in the tires. And with a driver and spare tire it's about 9lbs
