Don't ever do that and you won't have to worry about it.

Any battery can be bad news if you damage the cell or short them out. It does not really matter the chemistry, they are designed to give out power quickly, thus things get ugly real fast if the batteries are abused.

We shot 2 with a pellet gun. They were bad anyway. They get extremely hot for one. We had one above carpet and they almost melted through. It was pretty cool. It made the hard case melt instantly. Ours didn't catch fire though.

We shot a lipo that didn't really work with a BB gun and it didn't do anything at first and then it started to smoke and then it went boom kinda and everything came out of one of the cells.... I would assume it would be much worse with a lipo that actually worked

Usually it ends badly with smoke, sometimes flames. I took a board with a nail through it and punctured a cheap lipo that wasn't balancing anymore and it went up in flames quick, while just the other day I had a badly puffed hard case 3s and shot it with my .223 and it made a decent sized cloud of smoke but that was it.

I have a 22 lr that's a real tack driver. I am always looking for fun targets. I have yet for one of my lipos enter retirement but I have obliterated many other interesting targets. Hard drives, full CO2 cartridges, suckers, and hanging tennis balls etc... Full co2 cartridges inserted into a hole in 2x4s are pretty cool. Suckers make a big ol smoke ball. Hard drives are just because who throws away a whole one? That's stupid. I'll record if I take aim at a lipo for you guys.

Maybe a 22LR round enters and makes to large of a entry and things escape quicker.

Funny, I cut, poke, stabbed, an slashed one that was bad Thurs to start a river lot fire, for fun, an nothing happened, I was bummed.. had o e swell up an hiss at me earlier today when I plugged it into a esc I got off the for sale section an got it outside an a camera on it, but no fire.. I have had a couple short out, I think, an puff up so bad it broke the factory wrapping off it an the electrical tape I had around it to save it from the rocks.. nothing happened.. I'm kinda bored with the whole lipo explosion am fire idea.. if its goin to happen, I want to watch it go up in flames, not just lose a battery!

Sometimes they dont do much when pierced which for use is a good thing, but I do know if you have a car charger with boost (50a+) setting the little ones can go up in flames pretty quick after they swell to a much larger size.

As a chemist, I can assure you that when pure reduced lithium is exposed to oxygen, it incinerates and release a great deal of energy in the form of a thing called "heat". It really isnt funny at all. I hope nobody plays with this issue but knowing how the world behaves...well....this is partly why lipo's usually live in a hardcase.
It is frightening to me that people actually find this humorous. When the lithium gets hot the polymer becomes more liquid-like and can spew all over. If it gets in somebody's eyes they will likely never see again at the least. It is not a joke.

Its also important not to leave them in the car during the summer as the interior of the auto can get scorched if the pack swells and gets breached.

Personally I am surprised that these lipo's are still allowed to be transported via USPS or other carriers. I wouldnt want to transport boxes full of lipo's....no thx. Probably a matter of time til all sorts of restrictions show up to obtain lipo's...so might as well stock up now.

Ok i will stop ranting, just a bit tweeked out that people are poking at their lipos to" see what happens"...come on guys.

Its usually just a lot of smoke. Quite a bit of rc car melting heat but there usually isn't much in the way of flames unless it is fully or over charged.
