Default truck still running after TX turned off

i was finishing up some things on my truck and when i plugged the battery in after about 5 sec or so the truck started to slowly jerk forward but the weird things is my TX wasnt even on. Once you turn the TX on it stops and when u turn it off it does it again.

What would cause this?

Its an AE-2 esc and a sr300 tx

your radio should always be on when you have a battery plugged in just in case your esc is turned on..if the esc wasn't on, the truck shouldn't have gone anywhere..the reason it stopped when you turned the radio on is because it regained a signal with the radio and stopped moving.. if you were out driving your truck..and you stop and turn the radio off...the truck will take off outta control..due to loss of signal between the radio and receiver..that's what sounds like happened with you..you had the truck on with the battery plugged in, and the radio off...that's probably why it was trying to creep forward..

You could also try setting ur trims all to zero an re-binding ur rx.. some have a default... I know spektrum does.. if all is binded at zero, I can shut my tx off without my rig goin anywhere.. not that I make a practice of it... Or recommend it.. but spektrum rx have a default. An if you bind it with ur trims all at zero, that's ur default.. as I understand it

^^^x2

That's called the "failsafe". The Spektrum manual describes the setup for this, but as stated you need all trims set at zero, including subtrims. And it is a good practice to set the TX on before plugging in the truck battery (or flipping the ESC switch).

General rule of thumb for RC vehicles:

NEVER have the RX on without the TX on. Period.

TX on, then RX on.
RX off then TX off.

It prevents "stupid stuff from happening". It's not a radio/ESC issue, it's an operation issue.
Meaning you.

Sorry.

PS, failsafe is for when "crap happens", not "operator error".

What Charlie said, always, always, always. This was the first thing I taught my son when he started driving. He's not even 4 yet and yells at me to wait until he's turned the radio on. He's been driving since he was about 2.5

I used to have a VXL and 2 speed transmission in my scx10.
One day, after a comp I placed my tx in the trunk of my car and the button got moved to Off!
My damn truck started doing full speed donuts in a parking spot between my WRX and my friends GTO!
There were three of us trying to catch it!
I really didn't want it to hit my WRX but I really really really didn't want it to hit my friends GTO!
I finally was able to grab it and it about took one of my fingers with it...

I am extra careful now days.

I turn my rigs on all the time without the radio on. I've driven 2 crawlers at once on the same trip up a trail, just kept switching model memories. I've also had 4 cars on a track all on, drove them all without leaving the stand too.

I agree, all my FXRs will just flash the leds saying no radio signal and the truck will just sit there.
