| Mamba Micro Pro on 4S
Searching on this didn't yield any results worth mentioning. The Scenario: XR comp rig w/ 45t motors BRXL ESC's 4s power I want to move to a much lighter ESC combo and get weight off of the chassis. The BRXL's are fantastic and work flawless for me. They just weigh an absolute ton in comparison. I run 4s for every comp and is suits me well for my driving style. I already have one Mamba Micro Pro that's already de-cased. so I would only need to pick up one more ESC for my combo. I just don't want to commit to buying another if they won't hold up to the extra voltage. I know the Micro is rated for 2-3S. But we all know how Castle rates some of their ESC's (AE-2, Sidewinder, etc.). Has anyone used (In comps and heavy use situations) the Micro Pros on 4s? I haven't plugged one in yet as I don't have a battery/motor ends soldered on yet. Just don't want to find out there are on-board components that aren't rated for the higher voltage the hard way. I find it hard to believe that not a single person out there has plugged in a 4s battery to their Micro Pro. Bueller? Bueller? Marcus |

I just threw Castle an email about this. See if I get a response and what they say. I'll post back with any new info. Unless, of course, someone else has something to add. Marcus |

No, I have never run 4S through a Mamba Micro Pro, 3S yes (in comp rigs). I guess I will wait along with everyone else. | |

I have run 4S on every ESC I have had from Castle for the last 4-5 years. Had a dozen pairs of mamba micro pros on 4s, and am running 4S on my micro sidewinders with 16t crawlmasters now. Shouldnt be a problem |

Do the micros have cutoff and auto-detect 4s same as 1/10 sidewinders?

I got a response from Castle. They are saying they will NOT handle 4s due to components on the board not being capable of handling the voltage. Here is what I was sent: Marcus, Unfortunately there are components on the ESC that won't handle 4s; they are rated at 15 volts and a fully charged 4s is 16.8 volts. There is also over voltage protection built into the software that will prevent you from using more than 15 volts. Because the Mamba Micro Pro is designed to be a brushless controller, it can't handle as much power as an ESC designed specifically for brushed (IE the AE-2). We have never tested running the Mamba Micro Pro on 4s with a 45 turn motor, so even if you can get past the voltage limits, I would be extremely concerned about amp draw and heat. There is a small chance of burning up the ESC on plug-in and a significant chance of overheating or burning up the ESC from excessive amp draw. --- Thomas Porfert Product Specialist Castle Creations 540 North Rogers Rd Olathe, KS 66062 (913)390-6939 ext. 125 I'll probably be trying them out on 4s anyway. Especially seeing how many have tried it with no issues versus how many have tried it with issues. Thanks again Castle for the quick response Marcus |

I went through this also. I think Castle is doing some CYA on this as it WILL work. Quite a few guys are running the micro on 4s. Here is what I ran into though. The lipo cutoff will not work properly if you are running the latest and greatest firmware. You have to back the firmware back a bit. I do think you have to be careful about how you wrap and package esc's. I know a few have flipped the heat sinks into each other. I tried that and did not like the temps. I run mine flat with the heat sinks exposed. So to sum up. Castle with tell you not to do it but I think quite a few of us have had great luck. Just watch temps and run the older firmware. |

i just did the smash on my micros and run 4s w/ no prob. u have to use soft vs 1.24 for auto detect to work on the cc link. just make sure that when u turn ur esc on it will peep 4 times for 4s or 3 times for 3s etc. |

Firmware 1.24 is the magic number eh? I was talking with Casey the other day (Almighty Malachy or somethin like that) and this is what he told me as well. Thanks again everyone. Marcus |
