Default 1/4 scale servo help....

Name: servo.JPG
Views: 597
Size: 33.1 KBI need some ideas for extra support on my clod axles. With my new quarter scale servo mounted to the axle in the normal spot I am getting ALOT of extra twisting movement where the axle braces attach. I'm afraid the gearbox side is gonna get trashed if I run it like this. I had this problem with standard servos but not this extreme. I'll get a pic up tomorrow so you can see what I am dealing with. The axle braces are custom stainless pieces and the servo mount is aluminum. Any ideas or pics would be great! Thanx...

Mounting it was easy. Just trying to figure out a way to keep the twist under control is turning out to be a pain in the arse!
Is the "bolt pattern" the same on the 1/5th scalers your using? If so I can make the mounts pretty quick, then if you get those stainless steel axle braces at R/C Hobbies they will bolt right on. If you come to Kris' on Sunday bring one of your servos with you.

Before the pic loaded I started to get a little scared!
You would give metric measurements! So much for getting rid of this miagrane (sp?)

if you could drop a peice of angle down form your top link mount to your servo mount and put some axle braces on the inside of the c on the axle it would help . i have 1/4 scales on my stick and i have a brace coming off the backbone the same way . and the axle brace helps on the outside without it you could see the c part twist . it really helped mine .

Or you could get a couple 359's and ditch the 1/4 scales. These 359's I'm running now work better than my 1/4 scales ever did.

I think I got something that will work. I made a piece out of Delrin flat on top and curved to fit the top of the axle (where the tube meets the gearbox) my servo mount screws down into the delrin and when the outer part of the axle brace is pressed down to get the screw in it kinda sandwiches it in place. I still gotta test er out but it seems pretty stout bashin in the garage. These servos are WAAAAY stronger than anything I've used before, the tires turn lock to lock so fast before I adjusted the end points you could hear the "smack" of the knuckles hitting the stops I think I'm going over to the local rock pile to do some R&D. If this works I'll post the pics I took while making them.......

Any chance on getting some pics of your new setup, i saw at the rock race, but i wasn't thinking on running 1/4 sacles until now!

Also is the HS-805 the same size? It says mega quarter scale?

I didnt notice this being said previously, I just scanned the post/pics. What I had done on my last clod was drill another hole under the existing hole on the upper portion of the axle tube where the brace mounts. Having two screws go through at the axle tube eliminated my twisting. could be worth a shot. I think I used nuts on the back of both screws. If your links are mounted to th upper portion instead of the lower, you could possibly tap the lower hole of the brace and grind the screw flush. My 2 cents...

There's a post somewhere that shows how Heavy and Thefordmccord did it. Heavy has been running his for close to two years no with no flopping issues. I guess the best way to describe how they do it is that they run a link from one of the four screws that hold the servo on to the middle hole of the three that are on the front of a clod gear case.

On my Pimp cane we just tied the mount into the backbone itself and it worked wonderfully with the CVD's and aluminum knuckles

I tested the delrin parts I made at Kris' rock race and it held up pretty good, I still have a little movement but nothing like before. I took some pics while I was fabbing so if I get some time tonight I'll post em up. Been spending the last couple of nights setting up my new 175 gal. aquarium I can't wait to get some fish in there!

Here's a pic of what I came up with.

pic on the truck?
is the delrin attached to the axle? or just resting on it?
by now does anyone make a 1/4 scale clod mount?

All the mounts I've seen where hand made. The delrin block is scewed to the axle brace from the bottom and it rests on the axle tube. When you screw the brace to the axle it sandwich's the block between them and it is pretty solid. Hope this helps.
