Holmes BRXL WP or not?

I recently purchased an used Holmes BRXL esc from ebay. How can I tell if this is the one with waterproof or nor? I know Holmes sell two version WP and non-WP, but how can I tell the difference if the seller did not tell? And how good is the WP version does it go submerge without a problem?

With the water proof one the bottom of the casing is glued to the circuit board, the normal ones aren't, so the wholenplasticbody is easily removed

If you look thru the little window where the led are, the wp version has the plastic dip to be seen. They are translucent . Can say if the wp is good enough for submerged operation but mine has done some deep water crossing (Esc under water for short time) without problem.

If the seller didn't state waterproof, it is likely a regular version. If you look at the LEDs you can see the epoxy with the waterproof version.


You can submerge the WP ESC no problem. The biggest issue is hitting water with the ESC is hot. It will thermal shock components and break stuff.

check it and there's no expoxy on top of the LED area. Look like I have to do some WP work myself. Thanks for the info folks.

waterproof and not all mine are waterproof BR-XL and have the blue labels

I bought a waterproof BRXL a few years ago and it has the yellow print on the label. But it has a round yellow sticker with waterproof on the bag.

And I just bought another WP one a few weeks ago and it has the blue print on the label but no sticker on the bag.

I straight up dunked my waterproof BRXL pretty much all day during a 4 hr run at my local spot this past Sat. Worked like a champ before and after. My motor (HH trailmaster sport) on the other hand crapped out for the reason John states - the motor gets hotter than the sun and when I dunked it a few times (in a cold stream) and it blew due to thermal shock. On a few occasions I would literally see steam coming out of the motor from under my Wraith frame! I beat that motor to hell! It was awesome. Ha ha that is why I bought 3 of em'!
