| Drill motor conversion
Been reading up on drill motor conversions and decided to try out a 14.4v motor in my wraith. Anyone tried something like this before? Let me know. Will keep you guys posted. |

550 ? Most are a tad slower but do have a good bit of grunt.

There are a few guys on here that run them. There are videos on YouTube of how to do the conversion.

I've run one for nearly a year now in my ridgecrest. Took it out of an 14v craftsman that didn't hold a charge anymore. Quietest rc I've ever seen. I'd guess about 50-55 turn output speed. Best advice, use a slipper clutch band don't lock it. It will twist driveshafts.

The motor is about 550 size length but 42mm wide, i'll have to make my own motor mount and get a 5mm pinion.

550 motor is just a longer can. it will fit right up to the stock motor mounts. i run one in my SCX. a Traxxas Titan 12t is a 550 motor.

If its bigger than 40mm and has a 5mm shaft its a big 775 drill motor and its slower than a Traxxas 775 Titan but has major grunt.. Can you shoe horn it in ? |

The diameter of the motor is the problem, it's so wide that it doesn't fit on the stock mount. Also, the motor is getting shoved into my wraith. (axial 20t = 36mm, drill motor = 44mm)

Go look up banebots, they have many different motors for you to try out. Plus they are super cheap! http://banebots.com/p/M5-RS550-12 |

notch that steel sleeve with a dremel and pop that thing off. Its just a spacer to hold it in the drill body

Don't pop that off, it's not a spacer like you think! It's there to keep the magnetic field concentrated. If you take it off you'll lose torque !

Yeah the last motor is like the one i want to use but the ryobi is a little longer. Do you know about anyone who has done the 775 in the stock trans? I was thinking about dropping in a summit trans since it has a Hi-Low and is beefier.
