| Help moding a TQ3
Ok I'm a total retard when it comes to electronics. I'm getting ready to mod my TQ3 but I don't want the simple toggle switch, I'm looking at doing a knob type of thing. After search Radio Shack I found two different items that I though might work.. I've read every thread about moding by the way took forever and didn't quit get the epa pot thing but understand the wiring of all of it for the most part. Specs on the two items I'm concidering. 1. Mini Volume Control - 10K with audio taper. SPDT switch (?). Fits 5/16" hole, 1/4" diameter shaft. REsistance - 10K ohms, + 20% tolerance Rate power - .05 watts Sliding noise - <47mV Switch rating - 3 amps 30VDC Total Rotation - 300 degrees +3degrees 2. 25-Ohm Rheostat e watts, wirewound variable resistor 20% tolerance Resistance - 25 ohms + 20%tolerance Rate power - 3 watts Sliding noise <47mV Total Rotation - 300 degrees +5 degrees Mounting hole - 10mm Any help would be appreciated. Now with this type set up would I still need the 2.5K EPA's for porpotional steer? and I didn't see anywhere what type of caps that FritoBandito used on his and do I need them. Thanks J |

you are going to want a knob that returns to center I would presume. from what i gather if you are running a digital servo you have to have the epa pots so you don't overrun your steering setup. you don't necessarily need the caps, but it helps. i'll see what i can find in the grainger catalog tonight at work if you want. |

OK no help what so ever? Come on.. 1. is a pot 2. is a variable resistor. If they won't work let me know and I'll just get the normal set up. |

A pot and a variable resistor are the same thing. Offhand, I think either one will work. Your best bet is to measure the resistance across the pot in your steering wheel, and try to match that as closely as possible. I've never played with the inside of a TQ3, so I'm talking out my arse, but that seems the best approach to me. Those with different opinions are more than welcome to chime in and correct me. |

THANK YOU GOAT.. Now I'm getting somewhere. Since I don't have a return to center knob I'm thinking of fabbing in a spring that will return it to center when I get the Knob on it. I'll try both of them and see what happens. since radio shack doesn't have 2.5k pots and no one around me does either (unless it is like 30mm in diamater). I'll have to see if this will work. AND WHAT CAPS DO I USE??????? AND please Y'ALL kick in any ideas or what you think. I know it was discussed in the sticky but never clarified. | |

could you just rip apart an old pistol grip radio for the steering wheel potentiometer?
