Default Hitec 7980 help

I've run this servo for about a year and a half and at the last comp it just stopped. If I push on the servo horn while inputing steering commands it will start to wrok until you stop the steering input. Once you stop it stops and does not work again until you manually make it move. Is it worth it to have it repaired or is it shot? Any thought would be greatly appreciated. I had been running it at 7.4 volts.

OK, lots of looks to this thread with no replies, so I will jump in.

The HiTec 7980 is a great servo (although a tight fit in some rigs since it's a "little larger" than a "standard" servo).
It's a HiTec, I say get it fixed and keep running it.

Of all the HiTec servos we run (a couple of 7955's-----1.9 comp rigs,....a few 7950's-----2.2 comp rigs, 7954----died---fixed and being sold), I have a love of HiTec for their product & support.

The issue may be an electrical issue, it may be the middle case half is worn allowing gear mis-alignment.

Thanks for the reply - we run an indoor comp series so it's already on its way back to Hitec - hopefully she'll come back ready for the rocks.

It was probably a worn or dirty potentiometer. IMO I would have had a go at cleaning before sending it back if it wasn't a warranty issue.

I have done this to many servos in the past and I have a couple that are still going strong 3 or 4 years down the track.

I think it might have been Hitec that mention this sort of problem and how to fix it in one of their old servo manuals.
