Default battery/servo question

is a six cell mini pack needed when running a 1/4" servo? i have a hobbico bb cs80 servo and its being run by a mini 1100 mah pack. since i am just running the one servo with no rear ster, can i just stick with running it off the 3600 pack in the truck? lmk, cam.

Do you want it to catch on fire? It needs that pack.

It depends on the speed control you are using and its BEC output. What ESC do you have?

The Rooster has a BEC output of 5.7 volts/ .5 amps, so I would say you will need to use a reciever pack, tap off 5 cells from the main pack, or use a servo regulator to power the 1/4 scale servo.

My Hobbico says not to run it off the ESC no matter what. They draw too much power.

On any typical ESC I would agree with that. But ESC's that most crawlers use (Super Rooster, Tekin Rebel 2, and Super Duty) all have beefed up BECs. I have run one 1/4 scale on my Tekin Rebel 2 with no problem at all, haven't tried 2 and I don't think it would be wise to.

Example: The regular Novak Rooster has a BEC rating of 5.7 volts/0.5 amp, while the Super Rooster and Super Duty have a BEC rating of 6 volts/3amps. The Tekin Rebel 2 has a BEC rating of 6volts/5amps.
Novak's Nitro Servo Regulator is an external BEC that also supplies 6volts/3amps.

On my clod I use the Novak servo regulator to power my reciever and rear steering servo (Hitec 5995) and I power the front servo (also 5995) straight from the main battery pack. The regulator works great, and if it were to get overloaded, it only costs $20 versus an $86+ ESC.

I guess if it comes down to technicalities for the servo's manufacturer, running even a single 1/4 scale would void the warrenty. But who follows the manufacturer's specs anyway . Just kidding.

Just disconect the red wire from the esc to the rx and run the rx pack. I run two 1/4 scale servos and at full lock i get alot of voltage drop. But with the rx pack no problems at all!!
