My Tekin RX8 Smoked today!!

It smoked and i believe the small is it a capacitor ? Popped. like the small battery looking thing on top.... so is my esc screwed now ? I had a problem with it where the truck would cut in and out on throttle & steering... then pop the thing blew.

sounds like the capacitor popped. does the esc work at all? i think i would try hooking up a reciver pack or bec to your rx and see if it powers up. makes me think the bec in your rx8 went south.

Yes capacitor, the esc does seem to power up and i can see lights when i move throttle/steering etc...

Thanks for the reply, im pretty new to the electronics part of it,
1.) can i get a new capacitor and try that?
2.) Do u know what would cause the capacitor to pop?

if the lights are changing with input, does the truck move? if not, i would try a different motor.

Is this an RX8 or RS? There is no capacitor on top of the RX8, they are inside the case. The only ESCs that have a cap on the outside are the FX/B1/RS series controllers.

All of our ESCs have a built in BEC, they have to or your receiver and servo would not work without a separate BEC or a battery pack.

I have the FXR sorry, dont know why i put RX8 there. It has the external capacitor which has popped, where can I get a new capacitor?

Also the esc does still work i hooked it up to a rx battery and motor last night and it turned the motor no problem.... glad it still works, but i still need a new capacitor.

Contact Tekin and they can get you the new capacitor you need. I would run two of them, instead of the single one that was on the ESC. With two the ESC will run cooler and will put less stress on the ESC and the capacitors.
