Default need some help with tekin fx-r

alright guys need some pointers here.
not a noob to rc at all but am a noob to the tekin fx-r

traded for a scaler that came with the fx-r
running 27t motor in it (it's a good quality motor my friend gave me from his racing days. brand new so it's not a 10dollar cheapy) I just got back into crawlers and used to run 45t holmes hand wound in my last rig. but wanted something with more wheel speed.
2s lipo
mirrored tranny ( not just flipped skid)

on to the questions
I have no hotwire to hook it up. doing all programming on esc itself
I know the directions say to do the radio to esc calibration with throttle set to normal and not reverse. but for some reason I can only get it to program with my futaba 4pl throttle channel set to rev. It doesn't matter what motor wires are on what tabs of motor ( Polarity)
the thing will only program in throttle rev mode.
doesn't seem to big of deal but I have very little drag brake. now when i go in reverse and let off the throttle the esc locks the wheels up like i want.

The thing I don't get about programming this esc with onboard buttons is:
some of the settings such as drag brake have 11 steps but the leds on esc only go up to 6. so how do i bump the drag brake all the way to 11 when it only goes to led 6 and starts over back at 1?

I am at work so I am going to try and remember what my settings are

1 drag brake- I have it set to 6 because thats all the higher led goes.
2 Reverse strength- I think I have it set to 6 as well
3 current limiter - 6
4 push control anti drag -1
5 reverse type- 2 forward to immediate reverse. no pause
6 voltage cutoff - 2 for a 2s lipo

any help appreciated?
thanks guys

An FX-R compared to a Castle ESC, Castle is better. The Castle drag brake is one thing I like better.

I run dual FX-R's in my 2.2 Bully, so I don't consider them junk, just.....different.

Yes, Futaba almost ALWAYS needs the throttle channel reversed to run most ESC's. Flipping the ESC to motor wires makes the rig go in the direction the trigger is calling for.

As to button programming, I would have to try it out or re-read the manual to see what it states when you want high values in a setting.

after rereading your post I see you are having the same problem as I had two weeks ago. I also have a futaba and had to cal. In rev. swap motor leads to get travel dir. Correct. Then your drag brake will work in forward now. Also read the instructions again and the least amount of push control would be one led not the sixth led sorry. Also you should notice the leds go 1 12 2 23 3 34 4 45 5 56 6 for 11 leds hope this helps it took me awhile to figure it out. Really it pissed me off very bad

Oh so if I am understanding this correctly.
Calibrate it in rev. Then swap motor leads and then switch remote to norm on throttle channel?
Let me know if I understood you correctly. Thanks tricky!

Yes, correct.

Most of the radios my son & I run are Futaba, thus we're used to "reversing" the throttle channel to calibrate. Leave it that way once calibrated, then swap motor leads if the rig runs opposite from what the throttle trigger does.

[You REALLY want the ESC LED's to be correct to what the throttle trigger is doing]

Alright tried method posted by tricky. ESC had drag brake in forward but power was lacking. Just dawned on me while reading this that with this method I would probably need to put reverse strength to 100%....
My ESC LEDs were right to begin with in rev mode.

Frustrated j just put the motor wires back the way they were and recalibrated I reverse like originally. And wow for some reason I have some drag brake now. Lol not touching any setting whatsoever now. Lol

Man I miss the br-xl I had in my last rig. It just worked. And worked good. Once I can get the funds I will be going back to that product. ESC came with truck so figured I would give it a shot .

Thanks guys!!!
