Default servo wires?

can somebody give me a basic explanation of servo wires? what do the three different wires do? here's what i'm trying to do. i have an old airtronics 2-channel stick radio from my grasshopper i bought in the late 80's. each servo has 2 black and 1 red wire. i shaved the plugs alittle so they would fit in a newer radio/ rec. but they dont work. i assume the wires are in a diff order in the plug. i would like to use the airtronics stick with an esc, but need to re-wire it so i dont ruin the esc. is this possible?
tia.

it helps if you tell us what reciever you are using, and normally a red and a black next to eachother are the power so the other black should be the signal wire

ok, the reciever came with the radio way back in the day. it is an airtronics by sanwa, 92223 ( # is on top of rec.) , 75 band am. the plug in crystal says 64. it has slots for batt. and 2 servos.......so if red and black next to each other is power, and the other is signal, what colors does that correspond to on newer rec with blk, red, white?(this rec. came with my smartech nitro car)--its what i am using with my tlt now, but i would like to put it back in the nitro buggy and try the stick radio in the tlt, i think the older servos seem stronger too.
thanks
