i was wondering what is the best way to make one of the motors work in reverse rotation. i just bought a set of integy 55t lathe motors and asume i need to make one reverse? is it as simple as wiring it up backwards? they are going in my clod crawler with 9 tooth pinions, super rooster, hitec digital servos and a 1100 rx pack. do you guys think this will be a good setup? my run times right now are weak, maybe 5 minutes. i am using stock motors, stock pinions and no rx pack. thanks for any help... |

you are correct on all accounts. reverse the wires to make the motor reverse. your setup sounds like you did your homework- it is almost exactly my setup and mine works great.

well am I not correct in thinking that the motor will be timed in -15deg timing if you simply Just reverse polarity? Would it not be better to get Mod motors and just reverse One motors pol. and then re-time them (per the degree markings on the motor) both at say +15deg for stand rotation, and -15 at reverse? That way they both are turning the correct dirrection as well as being timed the same deg? |

i didnt know lathe motors had any timing. i was under the assumption that they were 0 degrees. you always want neutral timing on crawlers, so that you have as much reverse power as forward. if in fact it did have timing, the reverse rotation one would need to be negatively timed so that it would be the same speed and current draw. |

I wonder, if a person lived south of the equator, would they still have to reverse the wires?

if indought email integy and give them the motor # and ask them directly if those motors are at 0 degree or if in fact they are timed.they do reply to questions asked as i had one about a bat charger i had gotten in a deal and told me what i needed to know

I just reversed polarity in mine, worked great. If the 55's have advanced/retarded timing they sure don't seem to mind which way they turn.. I just did a quick test, hooked up a lathe motor to power and then reversed polarity. RPM stayed the same so I'd say they are 0deg. Also, every motor I've seen with timing, the brushes are not 90deg to the mounting holes (middle of magnets) The lathe motors are dead on 90* I put two of these in my e-maxx with two of the biggest cogs I could find. Thing was pretty fast. I finally got tired of running my emaxx before the batteries died! They broke a rear halfshaft before the battery died so I don't know how long it woulda ran but at least 30 minutes and the motors were barely warm. I likey. |

These lathe motors are SUPER slow compared to my magnetic mayhems! I just hope they have enough get up and go to bump me over some obstacles.

They are made to handle 12 volts. Some folks connect them to 14.4 v to supercharge them. |

You have to use something like the Novak Super Duty XR. Make two custom battery packs with five cells apiece for 6.0 volts. Connect two of these in series to the SR and you'll have 12 volts. Last edited by BultacoJim; 01-24-2005 at 02:33 PM. | |

Last time I stuck some 14t speed gems in my clod and just reversed the wireing on the rear and about 30 minutes later I smoked the hell out of my rear motor... and so I ask have you guys that been runing lathe motors for a while now had any problems like that? and now does anyone know of a dummys version of how to reverse the polarity on the rear motor so I can stay away from wireing them backwards.... |
