I've been looking for one too, although not sure of the material. My buddy has one and he knows I envy it. Apparently that's all that was used back then.

Add me to the list as well. heck any com stick would be better than tearing it apart and using a eraser to clean it ...

There are a couple of vintage rc specific comm sticks on ebay and a bunch of industrial versions that could be trimmed down to fit. I bet a sanding pen might work as well.

I have one from the 80's actually...it's a graphite stick. One end fits into the brush slot and has a curved surface to clean the com. Makes it nice and brite. The other end is round for cleaning the brushes. Leaves a slight film, but a little squirt of motor spray takes care of that. I cherish this thing...and my good friend Meatwad cannot have it...actually he'd be first in line. I do remember using a pencil eraser though...that actually works pretty good. Only problem is it chunks at times and that can be hard to clean out. I have not seen any e-Bay stuff....what do you search for that ? Or a link ? I'd buy one for my friend.... |

Those are comm sticks.....comm pens are what I posted. I never used the comm sticks really on the comm. They were good for cleaning brushes though. Nobody really makes them anymore...they lasted forever so there is probably 1000s of them out there just sitting in a box. A cut up ruby red eraser works better than a comm stick anyways.... We used (I still have) the rubber "erasers". There were 2, black & yellow since they were different grades of cleaning. Then we had the "brush" which was fiberglass strands for polishing the comm after the "erasing". It was ~1/8" diameter with a metal band on one end to hold it together. This was back when we ran "club stock" motors that were epoxy sealed. You could not open the motors so all work was done from the outside of the motor. |
