Default Need recommendations/info on Tx purchase

I looking to buy a new 3-channel Tx to get back into the surface game - scalers, crawlers, sct's, 1/8 buggies, boats, etc... I'm leaning towards either a futaba 3PM-X, or a Spektrum DX3R...

The DX3R is $300, and additional Rx's are $50, and Hobbyking has 3-channel orangeRx Rx's for the DX3R for $10...
I can pickup a 3PM-X for ~$150, but the Rx's are about $75...

My first vehicle will probably be a SCX10 Rubicon Kit w/ FXR 35T combo...

Any thoughts?

Futaba 4PL for under $250 and have seen them at $210 new. Very small 6ch RS2106GF extra recvrs with 1" antenna can be had for $35 new!

Any downside to the 4PL?

Looks like a pretty solid choice for my needs...

Not in my limited experience. Lots of info on these forums. I've noticed many used by comp drivers in videos.

I have 4PL and they are great.... Just in case in the future you want a MOA rig, the 4PL will provide dual ESC mixing out of the box. Beside the R2106GF rx that is so tiny for less than $40 there is a new futaba antenna-less rx (3 channel) for also less than $40.

If you are absolutely, definitely not going to have a MOA rig, I used to have a DX3c which serve me really well. I choose it before the 3PL because the spektrum has 3 position sw and futaba does not. Its better with a 3 position sw to control dig or winch function...etc.

A hacked flysky is a solid option as well....Dual esc mixing for crawlers, boats, tanks. 2-8 channels. TONS of options/features. I can't state prices, but check out overkillrc.com or the really long thread here in the electronics section.

The actual quality of the radio is less than a futaba but it got ALOT of functionality at a very affordable price....and rx's are very affordable as well.
