| Castle 3800kv and SV3
Forum search bar does not let me search the forums, it just says, wait 90 seconds, did the forums change or something? I know if you pay for this forum you can use it as many times without the 90 second wait, so I'm going to make a post. So I'm going for a brushless motor this time, no brushed I want to try brushless this time again, not for speed, far from it, just for water splashing and bashing and wheel speed for when I get a little bogged down in sand or mud. I was looking into the 4 pole 3800 motor and SV3, I need a water proof ESC so the SV3 is the one I'm going for. Can anyone suggest a Castle motor that's good for an SCX10. I've spent the last hour googling and can't seem to find answers on cogging. I know what cogging is but not for my specific motor question. If anyone has any insight, please feel free to message, thank you. Last edited by arctichorse; 06-01-2013 at 12:25 PM. |

when I talked to a guy at castle about it all he said was that it only cogs when you go straight up to like a wall, and floor it. But I don't own one, so call castle and they should be able to help |

With my 5700Kv setup cogging happens EVERYWHERE im not in the throttle, flat ground, uphill, downhill, mud, water.. everywhere. The SV3 is awesome for an ESC and seeing how you don't comp the 3800Kv will be fine, just gear it correctly and the cogging wont be as noticeable.

I have the 3800 and with the SCT Sidewinder (the version just before the SV3) it was great when you were going fast, but trying to go slow it was terrible. You had to goose the throttle to get it rolling, then as you'd accelerate it would surge with power. Fine for a SC truck or basher, but tough out on the trails and rocks. I ran that motor with a MMP and Brushless Hobbies 120a Pro and it was smoother with both, but still some cogging. It's the nature of the motor. I have noticed the 2 pole motors cog less, but have less torque.

2800kv motor is more then what you need on a axial tranny dont buy a 4pole motor as they cog a lot i pick up this setup from hobbyking and its water proof and works very smooth at low speed i have done 3 scx10 with this setup and have been very happy with it Turnigy TrackStar Waterproof 1/10 Brushless Power System 3000KV/80A |

The SV3 gets rid of clogging by basically eliminating say the first %5 of the throttle curve. You pull throttle and it doesnt cog it waits until you give it enough juice to get some wheel speed.I have the 4000kv and SV3 and no matter how low it's geared or what settings you change in it you never get the low speed control of a sensored brushless or brushed motor. You'll never get great low speed control. For trail running though in my TH I love it, works awesome way more speed and power than a brushed. My brother in law tried the same setup in his R1 comp crawler after a couple weeks if experimenting with setups he ditched the brushless motor and went to a 35t brushed (my stock LNC motor actually) to get that low speed fine control.
