| need help :Sidewinder micro repair
Hey Guys, does anyone have a guide or can give direction for repairing a sidewinder micro smash gone wrong? After the smash, one of my micros started to show some messed up behavior, on battery plug-in it would run the motor full throttle and the battery would start to smoke...yeah, i know. anyhow, after some research, it will fry a battery without a motor connected, but only when not plugged in to the receiver. if it isn't plugged into the receiver, it does nothing unusual, just sits there blinking red (waiting for a signal?). also, it doesn't matter if the transmitter is on or not. let the yelling and finger pointing begin!!!! any help is appreciated, i cant seem to find anything -Fred |

Just de-smash it and throw the offending ESC into the bin...... Seriously, desmashed it and redo the power wires on the offending ESC, it must have shorted somewhere... Was the esc new or working before the smash? |

Sounds like you got the board too hot soldering the shortened wires and melted one of the connections. If you can find were it's melted you may be able to salvage it.

On the second picture, there seems to be something missing at the connect point of the Rx wire. I don't have one to compare (they are all warped up). Check with the working one you have. Also the Rx connection and the on-off swich point seems to have a bit of solder connecting them, clear them. Can you also clear the solder between the 3 IC chips? Otherwise It looks ok to me. |

hey, thanks for the insight, Colgout, there is supposed to be a SMT cap (i think) across the signal and ground wires . that was a recent change, it was on there when things went wrong. When you say clear the solder between the ICs, i'm not sure i know where you are talking about. can you explain further? thanks man Also: i tried clearing all the solder joints and resoldering today, I also connected a single lithium ion battery with circuit protection. once again, when not connected to the receiver, it sits there just fine and blinks red, seems ok to me. as soon as i plug it into the receiver, it trips the protection circuit and shuts off. doesnt matter what state the receiver is in, powered, unpowered. argh Last edited by freddyg; 09-10-2013 at 09:22 PM. I meant where the Positive wire attach to. Yeah I notice my new MSW has a cap near the rx line, my older one (about 1 year old) one does not (from memory). Since your problem is only when connected to RX, can you use a multimeter to check if there is any shortage between the 3 rx wire? Use the working one as sample too see if the resistance between the 3 points are similar between the 2. Does it do the same if you only connect the signal wire to the Rx? Do you have another Rx to try? |

I did the smash. Yeah. happen to know the value of that cap? (I think its a cap) thought it would just be a filter/noise cap on the output But it may be more important. Sent from my LG-US730 using Tapatalk 2 |
