| Enclosed servo winch(645mg)
I like all the ideas I have seen on servo winches and thought it was time to try one of my own. I used a Hitec 645mg servo, a 3racing winch spool and a 6/32 allen bolt. It will free spool too. This is the prototype so my final case and gears will be drilled and cut clean unlike this one. Here is the complete unit. Here is a breakdown of what I did. Open up the case and remove the board and POT. I took the 3racing spool, ran a 6/32 tap into the spool end. Grind a flat spot on the end of the 6/32 Allen bolt. Remove the bushing from the servo output gear, then drill it out with a 9/64 bit. This lets the 6/32 bolt to spin free. Insert the bolt and cross drill the output gear and bolt with a 1/16 bit. You need to take your dremel and grind down the POT mold in the servo case. This needs to clear the spool. Drill a hole in the rear case for the 3racing spool bearing to rest in. Cut a clearance for you winch line to exit. This will be decided by how and where you plan on mounting it. Put a clip through the cross drilled hole. The clip you use should be a snug fit. To free spool you pull the clip out. Pop it back in and your good to go! This will go on my 6x6 build up on the front bumper. And if you want to flat mount it you could go through the narrow side. |

That is a great build description!!! Looks like I need to find one of my old servos, I might have to try the lay down method in the Wraith. |

Thanks for this tutorial buddy, I'm going to try building it, but keeping the servo control board, and run it off my 3rd channel. |

It's all down to cost mate, I live in South Africa. Buying one might be a problem.

Thread tag as I may be doing this to one of my spare Solar D772's rather than the lockedupRC spool mounted to the top just for space saving

In the begining I tryed the method that you are doing ,,Broke a few gears in the hi powered servos and the clip gets hung up on the chassis you will need a taller servo mount,,Heyok winch controller is the way to go,,,,,I like the fairlead on the servo looks good ,,,,Robert,,,,

I have this winch in the rear of my 6x6 and no problems yet. I run it off a good old Heyok controller.
