Default Need some thoughts on which ESC I should get.

Hey all, fresh crawler noob here, lol. I'm looking to get my first crawler (Axial Dingo kit) in the next few weeks, and I would like some of your experienced opinions on what speed control you think I should go for. I'm a seasoned, on road/off road/oval racer, but this is the first time I'll be dabbling in the crawler side of things as mentioned. Pretty much set on the Tekin brand, as I've had great luck with them. I'll be sending in one of my relic Tekin RS models in for an upgrade in the next few days, and I have two directions that I could go.

I could go with the RS Gen2 or bump to an FX-R setup. From what Tekin has told me, the RS Ge2 is more than capable for trailing/crawling. It has a built in BEC, which I'll need from what I've been reading. I also plan on running a brushed motor, however, the Gen2 can run either brushed or brushless. Should I even consider a brushless? I guess I'm just looking to get your ideas as to what you'd go with.

I was thinking a 35t or 45t motor as well, but not sure what is going to be better. Looking at mainly trailing, but will most likely encounter water fording as well as mud. Thanks for any help with your thoughts.

I agree except for the Dewalt motor. If your going with Tekin just get a 35t.

Interesting comments. What size voltage dewalt are you running? I don't mind re-building motors, as I still have a lathe and brush cutters from my oval days. By the way, please clarify the "CC" bec. Assuming it's an external add on? Who makes them? Thx

In my opinion I would just stick the RS gen 2 and just about any quality motor out there. Tekin hand wounds are great or the offerings of Holmes hobbies for motors are also good.

Most esc's have a low amp BEC built in, so regardless of the speed control you will likely need the add on castle BEC at one point or another.

My main reason for suggesting RS is then you have the option to go up to brushless later if you want.

Good luck with you purchase.

What are your intentions for crawling anyway, more crawling, or more trailing?

I'll be looking at probably a 60/40 trail to crawl ratio.
