Default Is Shoo Goo the same as silicone.

I am attempting to build my own battery packs. You gents use a substance called shoo goo to secure the batteries together. That is not something we have in the Uk. Is it the same as silicone or is it somehow different. I have done a search and from what I have found you mainly use the Shoo Goo for repairing shoes. I have loads of tubes of silicone available to me but it is something we use in construction for sealing around baths, showers and windows, and obviously I wish to do it right.

Thankyou

I dont think that type of silicone gets as hard...you could always hot glue them? I used to do that

I wouldn't use hot glue. Maybe you can buy a tube of shoe goo from the states and have it shipped to the UK.

There are plenty of silicone based adhesives out there that harden like a rock.

why is hotglue bad? I've been using it for years on my batteries and have never had any problems with it!

You can also use a method I was shown by an old timer. Sprinkle some backing soda between the cells. You have to have the cells tight together so the baking soda stays put in the crack. Then add one or two drops of super glue to the baking soda. You will have a permanant bond.

I usually put an extra single cell shrink wrap on each cell. Then if you want to take the pack apart you won't ruin your cells.

You guys don't shrink-wrap your packs? Less messy, and you can just cut it apart if you want to rebuild them...

Just for interest.

I went to a department store today [B and Q] and bought a glue gun. On looking at the packaging it stated that it was not suitable for heat or water. Due to the heat in recharging I returned it. I looked further and I purchased a tube of Unibond Repair Extreme Power Glue. It resists shocks, impact, water and extreme temperature [-50c to +120c] I know this might not help you fellas in USA as you have your goo stuff, but it might interest anyone in the UK

I quit using super glue on my tires and wheels and only use Shoe Goo now. Works great and must easier to remove/replace tires and wheels.

It is great stuff.
I was waiting for the ShoeGoo king to notice this thread!

To Diversify slightly.

Do you actually need to use shrinkwrap around the batteries. On some pics all I see is insulation tape?
