| Need a Waterproof esc
hey guys this isn't really crawler related but I need a good solid waterproof brushless esc that can be submerged for a brief time when the water skips don't go as planned. I recently bought a Telluride with some mods including a 4000kv Toro 550 size motor and it has a 60a hobbywing esc. It waterskips and moves along well but I feel this motor needs more amps. I called castle as the MM2 was on my mind and they said if I submerge their esc it will void the warranty! WTH? I have been looking at the Hobbywing 120a SC8 esc RC EZRUN 120A ESC WP SC8 Waterproof Speed Controller Board 2in1 Hobbywing Car | eBay and they said it wouldn't work under water! With the current 60 a esc, if I turn it off wet I have to let it dry before it will drive again. So what do you guys recommend I put in this telluride? I gotta be able to run a 3S in there every now and then for fun and to break stuff. With Castle saying what they did to me IDK if a Sidewinder3 WP esc would work. |

If you want a good submergable ESC that is SensorLESS the Hobbywing you linked it great! I've owned and submerged that ESC. I also Waterproofed my MMP with conformal coating. That can do sensored motors. |

I've have a MM2 that I've been drowning(not on purpose) for the past couple months and it's still going strong with no issues. I have a video of it in action. Check the video @ 1:07. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LvFY132ANE Only thing that would need to be done is remove the on/off switch and fan because those are not waterproof and just as a precaution I put di-electric grease in ALL of the connectors. |

thank you all for the input. This one doesn't need to be sensored. I was just put off by what the guy at castle said. Robertjpjr would you rank the HW esc over the SV3? ItsDakine dude that's a badass EXO!!!! I like the MM2 and they can be had for $119 on ebay. Everything else I have either runs an MMP or an MMM esc so I have the castle link to adjust the SV3 and its about $60 shipped. The HW one is $80 shipped with a program card. $20 isn't a big deal here. Yeah NONE of my CC esc's have a switch anymore lol. So I have a decision to make now. Anyone else like to add to this? |

I would get a castle product again. I've got Hobbywing stuff and it's great, but doesn't do brushless and brushed. Sometimes I like options. Switch an ESC out or motor. I've got a waterproof version of the BRXL and as stated above, Holmes Hobbies can sell you a MMP waterproofed. I've had no issues with my BRXL. It's all what you have for budget and what your needs are. The Hobbywing is brushless only. Sensorless brushless at that. I had it in an Emaxx with a huge 1/8 scale motor. I didn't need sensored. All this said, a $3 tube of epoxy will fix your current ESC to totally waterproof. |

Epoxy can rip components off the board. Regular shelf stuff has a higher coefficient of contraction compared to potting specific products. It's not guaranteed to happen, but much more likely with heat cycled products and regular epoxies. .
