Red face best electronics for axial scx10

Hi Im getting a dingo or jeep kit what electronics should I put in it. I already have a water proof brushless esc or should I go brushed. Also I have a spektrum Reciver and remote.

Best is never cheap.

I suggest a brushed 35 turn paired with a Holmes Hobbies BRXL with either 2 or 3 cell lipo.

And a Hitec 7950 servo.

Yes, much cheaper electronics "will do the job", but these will do the best job the longest. Over the long run I've spent more on replacing cheap servos than I have on expensive servos because the cheapo's don't last.

I mostly rock crawl with my SCX's so I gear either 12/87 or 13/87 for the best low speed control. Top speed on 2 cell is about walking pace.

You could gear all the way up to about 16/87 without heat issues and still rockcrawl very well.

If you mainly train run at 3+ mph then you can likely get away with gearing up to the stock RTR ratio of 20/87, but it will work the motor very hard if you do strenuous extended crawling.

i think a properly geared brushless would be fine too. Mostly depends on what ESC you already have, and if you want to spend some cash.
Brushless recommendation - 21.5 turn or about a 3000kv.
Brushed - I have had great success with my Castle sidewinder SCT or my BRXL. Paired with a 21t Traxxas Titan 550.

All depends on what you're using it for.

I run a MMP and a 4000kv sensored brushless in my Wraith geared at 12/56 and I can scale rocks with my brushed buddies just fine.

What kind of terrain will you be running on? If you will have lots of traction or steep technical downhills then I would go brushed. If you will be on loose low traction surfaces and need lots of wheel speed for extended periods then go sensored brushless. I was running a castle mmp with a roc412 3100kv on 3s geared 56/10 and will be trying out the HH trailmaster brushless also 3100 kv and same gearing. I recommend the xr steering mod for more steering and look for a servo over 400 oz/in. A good strong servo is really nice to have. Good luck

Paying extra for overkill isn't the best either...

What's "best" is a very personal issue, depending on driving style and preferences.
The only way to figure out what's ultimately the best is to go with a starting point and then, after a couple of runs, gradually home in on what is found to be desired.
Yes, you can go overkill from the start and not have to replace anything down the road, but that will cost a small fortune in unnecessary expenses. The Hitec 7950 cost for example ~$150, and a $20 servo might be sufficient for you...

Starting cheapish and replace/upgrade as/when desired/required will also cost, but it's a cost spread over time and subsequent replacements won't be as expensive.

I have ran that esc in my wraith for a foff type setup. It did what i needed to for that application but it was running at about 30 mph. For a trail truck you will be less than impressed with it. No drag brake, no instant reverse, and no programability. I would suggest the castle mamba max pro and the holmes trailmaster bl540 3100kv. I've read a lot of good things about the solar d772 servo so i would definitely try one of those. Other items you would need are a castle bec, castle link for programming everything, connectors for esc to battery and esc to motor, and a sensor wire from esc to motor. geared 56/10 on 3s lipo will give you great low speed control, plenty of torque, and lots of wheel speed. sure it will cost you a few bucks off the bat but i feel that you will be very happy with the results of this setup.

Best setup I have ran is Tekin fx-r esc, tekin hand wound 30t(new motor, replaces the 35t) and a hitec 7955tg. Have it in all my crawlers and had nothing fail yet.

I run stock spur and 18 tooth pinion. The 30t will be about the same as stock speed wise, but tons more torque and crawling capability. You will never find your self in a sport that the motor won't get the tires moving. Highly recommend it.

IMO if your using this scx10 for crawling/trailing speed is not as important.
