Can you share your thoughts on solar brand servos? Do you think they are any good? I have run a some without any problems, but other people say they have problems with them.

Their awesome for the money. Had two in a wraith for 4ws and never had an issue. Now that wraith is on it's third owner and the servos are still working fine.

I roll the D772

in fact I purchased three, a year back...
still haven't destroyed the first one.

I run 7.4v thru it... and for hours on end

so I feel it's a fairly good servo considering it's purchase cost.
There are better servos no doubt...
but they will cost 3 or even 4 times as much.

I prefer having 2 back up D772's
Vs. having one hi-dolla unit.

I'm not experienced with the other Solar servos/products...
so I have no comment regarding.

Note:

the Solar D771 is basically the same unit
and should be equally durable...
But it lacks the low end torque wanted for a crawler.
The D771 would better suited for high speed, groomed track competition.

X2 ^ ...all I could find were mostly useless reviews

supply the D772's voltage at 7.4 - 8v for peak performance.
I find 7.4v steers with authority on my 1.9 rig

You can clearly see at the 1:00 mark that he hardly puts any pressure on the wheel and tire (watch the tire, it does even fold slightly where his fingers are holding) and it doesnt really move.

I will this coming weekend get a video of my old d772 solar servo I had and show you it does not even provide 300oz of torque at the 7.4v.

I understand that pointing out a cheap servos faults will put people that have bought them on defense, but it is what it is. Please show us where they do provide the givin torque specs.

Yes, I'd like to see these videos also. I've only found stupid videos of some dumb-ass rambling about nothing and "watch, I can plug in a servo" type stuff.

I run mine in my Yeti XL, @ 8v and it is doing fine. This rig gets run fast and crashes a lot, when I bring it in for a juice swap, the servo is room temperature.

I'm looking forward to running one in my wraith also on 8v. I will definitely order more.

In my own testing, the D772 stalled at 2.86 amps at 7.4v.

Keep in mind.....most servo specs were measured at the output splines, not the end of an inch long servo horn

That doesn't make any sense concidering the measuement is oz/in. If that's the case then those manufacturers are doing it wrong.

How so? Torque is the measurement of the amount of force required to move an object over a specified distance. Adding the servo horn introduces a lever and fulcrum into the math

Yes i agree manufacturers should change how they spec their equipment to better reflect its intended use, but the numbers just look so much better

What you just said makes no sense. I am in this conversation and have provided a video from a reliable hobby personal. This weekend, I will be in Spokane at a friend crawlers place that now has the servo... that he no longer uses do to his savox that only has 277oz torque that out preforms the cheap d772.

772 is a great servo for any application! I own 7950, 7955, hh v1 & v2,772's & had savox both wp & 1230sg which all failed or I sold before they did? Imo Savox sux!!! Hitec is the best but price is best too...HH & Hitec have best cust service. Really hard to beat a $23 servo with over 350oz been runnin mine for almost a year now at 8v!!!

Here is food for thought... there is a reason that hitec wants $100+ for their comparable servo, John Holmes wants $90, savox (not a brand I prefer, but better quality) wants $70 for theirs. Its definitely not because these Hong Kong servos are all so mighty and the other companies want to rip you off, its because they arent what they advertise and are not reliable.

Ask John Holmes and Harley why they dont run them instead of asking us low timers.
