| Anyone ever used this motor?
I am currently building a Stretched TLT for rock crawling. After putting some thought into it, I decided to try something a little different. I took apart a Black and Decker Firestorm 14.4 Volt Cordless Drill and snagged the motor for my new TLT. The motor is made by Johnson and I believe it is a 600 series. Which with the housing cover/shield on it is about the same size as a TITAN. However it would not fit in the stock TLT tranny without removing the cover/shield. So I removed it, I figure it is only used as a heat shield anyway, and with the motor having a built in fan, and only running on 7.2 volts rather than 14.4 volts, I didn't figure I needed the extra heat protection. ANYWAY, my question is....HAS ANYONE USED ONE OF THESE MOTORS IN A RC TRUCK BEFORE? Do they have lots of torque, or are they just a high speed motor that actually needs the gear reduction unit in the drill to produce high torque? ALSO: If someone has used this motor or knows anything about it....DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TURN MOTOR IT IS? Just wondering. I haven't had a chance to run it yet, so I really don't know what I am in for. Thanks for any information you can provide. Clark, SUPERMANWV Last edited by SupermanWV; 02-02-2005 at 06:09 AM. |

Thanks for the info. That does look like it. But I wonder how many turns are on the armature. Clark |

Well after I compared the spec with this T-600 motor. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...p?&I=LXJ765&P= Look at the max speed, current and voltage, it may have 27 turn winding. I may be wrong but it should be close enough. One thing, the shaft is short (7.5mm) and no flat bar on it, locking the pinion may slip under heavy load. |

The shaft length is fine on the TLT, and I ground a flat spot in the shaft. I also had to grind the shaft a little to fit it in the TLT Pinion. I think I shaved a little too much off, but after securing the pinion on it seems to be holding tight. Do you think this type of motor will have more torque than a Magnetic Mayhem, or about the same or is the Mag Mayhem better? Just wondering....If anyone knows, fill me in. Thanks Clark |

without actually bench testing the two its really hard to say. how hard is it to spin the shaft by hand?

....have more torque than a Magnetic Mayhem....not sure. But you will have longer run time for sure. Have a look at this thread. Johnson 550 motors |

Its not hard to turn at all....What if it was? Clark | |

that can indicate strong magnets, and strong torque.
